Youth Frontiers is a NSW youth mentoring program for young people in Years 8-9. The program is designed to build young people’s skills, capacity and community connectedness. It includes the development and delivery of civic projects and is an initiative of the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
Annually MTC delivers Youth Frontiers to over 300 young people across 23 State Government electorates in South Western Sydney, Western Sydney, Nepean, Blue Mountains and the Far West. (38% of the state). Delivery includes matching 314 young people with approved volunteer mentors.
OCTEC, our not for profit partner agency, delivers Youth Frontiers in the Far West, in three electorates.
We are currently seeking volunteer mentors who want to make a positive difference to young people in the community. Mentors will have the opportunity to offer support and guidance to Year 8 and 9 students across Western Sydney, South-Western Sydney and Nepean.
We are seeking volunteer mentors who:
- Connect easily with young people.
- Have a passion to help youth develop their confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and community connections.
- Will assist a young person with a community project.
Mentors must be available to mentor a young person 1-2 hours per week from April to October 2017, on school premises, during school hours.
Training and ongoing support will be provided, by a Youth Frontiers Youth Advisor.
