Good News Story

Danielle’s Story

When jobseeker Danielle first arrived at MTC Australia’s Caboolture Workforce Australia site she was homeless and living in her car. Forty-eight years old, she felt dejected with life and had no idea how to even begin turning things around so that she could find sustainable employment.

The MTC team greeted Danielle warmly and with empathy and, using MTC’s customised and comprehensive intake questionnaire, MTC Health and Wellbeing Coach Helen gently guided Danielle through a discussion about a suitable action plan.

Through the intake questionnaire, MTC Coach Helen identified that Danielle faced a number of barriers to gaining employment including her housing issues, financial problems, health issues and employability issues such as not holding work related qualifications or tickets and not having any IT skills.

Together, Danielle and her MTC Coach worked through the issues, developing her job search skills as well as providing her with financial support to pay for fuel, work clothing and a mobile phone.

The MTC Coach then referred Danielle to a mature aged job expo where she identified a mature aged traineeship to apply for. Danielle applied and was successful. She has since graduated from Reclink, completing her Certificate I in Construction Traineeship.

Since beginning work, Danielle has now secured stable and safe accommodation and has a clear direction of her career goals and belief in herself that she will reach them.

At the Reclink graduation, Danielle was the recipient of the Reclink Award for Respect – an absolute credit to her ability to remain focussed, committed and to strive for change and achievement.

Danielle has since been approached by several employers offering her ongoing work. Danielle is very grateful for the support from her MTC Coach Helen and all that MTC have done to empower her to create her promising future within the construction industry.
