Good News Story

Imogen’s Story

Coming to MTC Australia’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program gave Imogen the skills she needed to create a compelling resume and navigate the hidden job market.

Since starting MTC Australia’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) program at the Strathpine site, Imogen has achieved many of her goals.

Imogen’s main goal when she began the SQW program was to secure an apprenticeship in welding/boiler making. With the dedicated support of her SQW Coach Daniel, Imogen received valuable assistance in creating a compelling resume and cover letter. Equally important was the guidance she received on navigating the hidden job market, a skill that can truly make a difference.

Through MTC’s extensive employment network, Imogen’s determination and improved job-seeking strategies paid off. She successfully secured an interview opportunity, which led to her starting an apprenticeship. Imogen is now focused on welding and fabrication in Brendale, Queensland, as she works towards becoming a skilled Boilermaker.

Imogen’s unwavering commitment to her goals, along with the support and resources provided by the SQW program, has been instrumental in her success. Throughout the course, Imogen eagerly embraced acquiring new skills, improving her interview preparation techniques, and perfecting her resume. She also found comfort in participating in a boxing class, which helped her overcome mental health challenges and provided valuable tools for managing anxiety.

One of the highlights for Imogen was learning diverse approaches to securing employment. Whether it involved direct contact with companies, in-person visits, or leveraging online platforms, she discovered innovative ways to promote herself and stand out from the competition. Imogen highly recommends the SQW program to anyone seeking employment and comprehensive support on their journey.

Imogen’s story demonstrates how the MTC approach equips individuals with the skills, confidence, and resources to secure meaningful employment. We are immensely proud of Imogen’s achievements and honoured to have been a part of her journey toward professional fulfillment.
