Good News Story

Afifa’s story

Despite attending job seeker training in the past, language barriers meant Afifa struggled to secure even a casual job. MTC’s SEE Pathways course gave her practical job skills which made all the difference.

“Working full time has changed my whole life for the better. I’m able to rent, do normal activities and I’m even planning to continue my studies in business.”

When she attended previous job seeker training courses, Afifa found her ESL status made it challenging to keep up with the lessons. By the time she came to MTC Australia, she was in a precarious financial situation.

Originally from Bangladesh, Afifa needed extra support to improve her ability to communicate and build the skills required to study effectively. She found the MTC Trainer went above and beyond to help her overcome these challenges and MTC Australia’s SEE Pathways to Job Readiness course, held in partnership with Muslim Women Australia, was the perfect solution to her challenges.

“MTC’s job class was totally different. Within two weeks the trainer had helped me to prepare my resume, (complete) job skills preparation and practice interviewing. We prepared my cover letter, role played job interviews and completed job applications. I gained different skills including oral communication, writing and job skills,” Afifa said.

“The Trainer was in contact with me even during weekends and after her working hours. I greatly appreciate MTC’s help.”

The SEE Pathways course gave Afifa the practical job seeking skills she needed, and she is excited to be achieving her personal and career goals. Afifa has now secured a full-time role as a receptionist at ISRA Medical Centre in Lakemba, and she is planning on continuing her studies in business.

“Now, my life is getting so much better.”

We’re so glad to hear that Afifa!
