Lydia’s story
An employment gap and the impact of COVID on the job market left Lydia with very little confidence in ever returning to the workforce. So she turned to MTC Australia’s Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program for support.
Lydia signed up for MTC Australia’s Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program after spending three years overseas with caring responsibilities for a relative. Upon her return to Australia, Lydia started looking for work. Unfortunately, with an employment gap in her resume and COVID-19 severely impacting the job market, Lydia had very little confidence in ever returning to the workforce.
The CTA classes that Lydia took helped her enormously. “I was so impressed with the design and flow of the CTA Modules and Career Pathway Plan activities,” she said. “The modules widely covered the current job market, identifying transferable skills, cover letters, resumes, and preparing for interviews and re-building our confidence.”
During her time with the CTA program, Lydia felt her confidence begin to improve and she started to believe that she could achieve her goal of gaining employment.
Soon, Lydia found a reconciliation accountant position that she knew she would be perfect for. After a long application process that took nearly two months, she received a job offer for a six-month contract! “From this job opportunity,” Lydia says, “I learned that I could fit into a new work environment and pick up new knowledge and skills.”
Lydia credits her success to her CTA Facilitator Claudia, who she commends for her friendly and professional approach. She says “Claudia’s mentoring and support turned my negative thinking back into a positive outlook.”
