CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care 

The NSW Department of Education has recognised MTC Australia as a High Performing Provider. 

The CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualification is targeted at Childcare Workers who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in the early childhood education and care sector. 

Who is eligible for this course?

This course is available to all students under the Smart and Skilled initiative of NSW State Training.

To be eligible*, you need to: 

be aged 15 years or older 

no longer at school 

living and working in NSW 

be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen 

*other eligibility criteria may apply upon enrolment  

Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills

You will require the Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills to: 

Read and comprehend the course learning content

Conduct a basic internet search 

Engage in online learning, including video conferencing sessions

Use a range of software to communicate electronically and create simple documents 

You may also be required to have access to a computer or laptop and an internet connection.

How is this course delivered?

MTC offers this course as a Traineeship, which combines workplace training and assessment with distance-based learning. Training support is provided throughout the course to ensure participants have the greatest chance of successful completion. 

Duration and delivery mode:

This is a self-paced course and can take up to 12 months to complete. The training sessions are delivered face-to-face and online through Microsoft Teams and are arranged by the trainer. The self-paced learning is through our online learning platform and requires approximately 10-15 hours study per week. 

Practical placement hours:

Minimum of 280 hours (working hours can be integrated as placement hours for traineeship participants).

Student IT requirements:

Students must have access to a computer or laptop, word processing software and the internet to undertake this course.

Course Units

You will need to complete 15 units of competency, including 12 core units and 3 elective units. The units cover topics such as communication, workplace innovation, business technology and health and safety.

You will need to complete 15 units of competency, including 12 core units and 3 elective units. Units cover topics such as designing, planning and implementing educational programs, providing leadership and support to other staff and ensuring compliance with policies and legislative frameworks.

Certification

Successful completion of this course will lead to a nationally recognised qualification in Australia, awarded by MTC Australia. Should a student not complete the full qualification, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the units in which the student is deemed competent.
