MTC was established in 1989 in Marrickville by a team of just three. Now we’re a group of 450 dedicated people working at more than 40 locations across NSW and Queensland and every year we support 20,000 people with new skills, confidence and opportunities.

Disability Employment Services (DES)

Disability Employment Service (DES) is a government-funded initiative designed to support people who are living with a disability, injury, or illness, find suitable employment.

Are you eligible for Disability Employment Services?

You may be referred to DES if you are living with a disability, injury, illness, or health condition that requires additional support at work by verifying your medical condition with Centrelink.

You are eligible for Disability Employment Services if you:

have a permanent disability, injury, or health condition

are aged at least 14 years but have not yet attained the Age Pension qualifying age 

have a future work capacity with intervention of at least eight hours per week or of fewer than 30 hours per week 

are an Australian resident

be in receipt of an income support payment, except where you are:

  • ESAt/JCA exempt (Eligible School Leaver, Special Class Client or Work Assist)
  • a current NDIS participant
  • a Pre-Release Prisoner
  • undertaking a DES program to satisfy Program of Support requirements

How does our DES program work?

Tailored support

You’ll have a dedicated Recruitment Partner who’ll work with you to identify your needs, set some goals, and create a plan for achieving them from day one. You’ll also work together to develop and customise your resume and sharpen your interview skills.

Access to additional services

Your Recruitment Partner will work at a pace that suits you by connecting you with additional support and complementary services, should they be needed.

Connect with local employers

Once you’re ready, your Recruitment Partner will connect with suitable employers who are looking for your skills and abilities.

Ongoing support

The support won’t stop there. From the first day of your new job, we will set you up with tools for success, check in with you regularly, and access the assistance you may need to support both you and your employer, on the job.  We will be there to help keep everything on track.
