What is a Wage Subsidy?
The Workforce Australia Services Wage Subsidy (WASWS) is a government-funded financial incentive that encourages companies to hire eligible individuals in ongoing roles. The subsidy contributes to the initial costs of hiring a new employee and is designed to support employers with access to diverse and flexible hiring options.
The WASWS is part of a broader program of support that assists disadvantaged individuals in securing employment, matching their skills and experience with the needs of employers. Employers can access a subsidy of up to $10,000, depending on eligibility. Subsidies apply for a period of six months.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, an employer must be a legal entity with a valid Australian Business Number and cannot be a government entity. An eligible role must meet the following requirements:
Be in a sustainable and ongoing job of no less than six months.
Comply with all employment standards and laws.
Offer a safe system of work.
Not displace an existing employee.
Not be a commission-based, self-employment, or subcontracted position (exceptions apply).
Pay the minimum national award wage or relevant award.
