We are very happy to welcome Warwick Kowalczyk to MTC Australia as our new Chief Information Officer! Warwick has broad experience across IT applications, having worked with several large and complex organisations.
Warwick recently took some time to answer a few questions so that we could get to know him better:
Where did you work prior to MTC?
I was working at the a2 Milk Company for about 18 months managing finance and supply chain applications. Prior to this, I was at Westfield. I was there during the first COVID lockdown and have plenty of war stories to tell about trying to deal with a pandemic where there was no playbook.
What made you want to come and work at MTC?
I have the utmost respect for people who want to better themselves and create new opportunities in life, so I was excited to come to MTC to make a contribution to our customers improving their skills, and getting into the workforce.
What are you responsible for in your role at MTC?
I lead the IT team and am responsible for technology strategy and delivery. Having a lengthy background in IT, I may even fix the odd printer now and then if needed.
Tell us a bit about your life outside of work.
My life revolves around my family; my wife of 20 years, my daughter who is about to commence HSC, and 2 rescue dogs named Mitzy and Marco. My personal interests are long and varied. I love food & wine, including doing plenty of home cooking. I’m also a sports fanatic. Golf, tennis, cricket, and snooker are some of my favourites. But being a Victorian originally, Aussie Rules footy is my religion. Every single person I ever meet has to listen to my waffle on about my AFL team, the Melbourne Demons so apologies in advance. I also do a lot of reading – generally a book a week. And if there’s any time left I have a digital camera that I fumble around with.
Did you get up to anything exciting over the end-of-year break?
Driving – we did a round trip to Melbourne over Christmas, then a trip to Kingscliff up near the QLD border for a beach holiday.
Do you have any goals (work or personal) for this year?
Workwise is to continue to build on the great work the IT team has done at MTC as well as deliver some critical capabilities around student management. Personally, I want to beat my best golf score this year. I also plan to start learning mandarin again (for the 3rd time). My daughter speaks it fluently, and I’d love to get to her level.
Are there any TV shows, movies, or books that you’ve seen or read recently that you’d recommend?
My movie tastes have not progressed past 1995, but I did watch Glass Onion on Netflix a few weeks back, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In terms of TV, I’m re-watching Schitt’s Creek (again) and it gets more and more brilliant every time I watch it. It’s a masterpiece.
