Good News Story

Ben’s Story

Read about Ben’s journey to independence with MTC Australia’s Youth Employment Assistance service. Learn how he gained employment and confidence through dedicated support and hard work.

Meet Ben, a testament to the transformative power of determination, hard work, and the right support system. As a participant in the Youth Employment Assistance (YEA) service (formerly known as SLES) at MTC Australia, this 20-year-old man has been on a remarkable journey towards confidence, independence, and employment.

Joining MTC Australia

Ben teamed up with MTC Australia in November 2022, aiming to enhance his communication skills and secure part-time employment. With the support of his NDIS Job Coach, Sam, Ben embarked on a nine-month journey, building his skills, confidence, and understanding of the work environment.

Early work experience

His first work experience stint in January 2023 at Best and Less provided valuable insights into the unique challenges he would face in the workplace. This experience helped the MTC team tailor our support to Ben’s specific learning needs, further aiding his development.

In May 2023, a prepared and confident Ben returned to the workforce with a work experience opportunity at a local café. His hard work and dedication made an immediate impact, and within just 12 weeks, he became a paid member of the team at Jamaica Blue Café. Today, Ben relishes his newfound financial freedom and the independence that comes with it.

A commendable milestone

Currently, as we plan his transition away from our support services, Ben continues to demonstrate remarkable budgeting skills and a drive for self-improvement. Meeting Ben in person, his kindness and quiet confidence are readily apparent, as is his determination to work hard and seek new experiences. Seeing him thrive and become more independent is a joy to us all at MTC.

As we approach this bittersweet milestone, we are immensely proud of Ben’s progress. We look forward to seeing him continue to flourish in his employment and beyond. His story serves as an inspiration, highlighting the incredible potential within each of our participants.
