Good News Story

Gharden’s story

Gharden’s story is one of determination and hope. Forced to flee Tibet due to political instability, Gharden arrived in Australia in late 2022. Despite not speaking any English, he was determined to build a successful new life for himself in Australia.

When he arrived in Australia, Gharden was welcomed by the Tibetan Community Association and began receiving social assistance. One of the first things he did was joined MTC Australia’s Workforce Australia service where the team arranged translation services for his appointments so we could understand what type of support he needed. Gharden’s Health and Wellbeing Coach Jonathan also provided him with technical support, setting up his myGov account and showing him how to submit his reports.

Jonathan helped Gharden enrol in the Adult Migrant English Program at TAFE NSW, where he learnt practical skills as well as confidence to use English appropriately in everyday life.

Gharden said he is grateful for the freedom and dignity that Australia has given him after the political tragedy he experienced in Tibet. He dreams of one day being able to give back to society and use his experiences to help others by teaching them how best to deal with difficult situations using compassion and knowledge gained through experience.

He is grateful for the assistance he has received along the way and for the new relationships and friendships he has formed.

Gharden is a man who refused to give up hope and persevered through difficult circumstances to build a new life in Australia. He is a testament to the kindness of those who helped him along the way and a reminder that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
