Good News Story

Jasmine’s Story

Jasmine’s path to employment began at a recent careers expo, where she first learnt about MTC Australia’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program.

Sharing her initial thoughts about the Skilling Queenslanders for Work course, Jasmine said, “I found out about this course through a careers expo that I went to. I (was) unsure what industry I wanted to work in and where to even start.”

Setting goals and finding direction

On her first day in MTC’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, Jasmine told Coach Daniel that her primary goals were to build confidence, determine her preferred industry, and secure a job in that field. Jasmine’s passion for animals and her experience with dogs were key factors in shaping her career objectives. Things were already starting to fall into place.

During the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, Jasmine focused on improving her resume writing skills and participated in the boxing and cognitive behavioural therapy aspects of the program. These core components of the program significantly boosted her confidence and prepared her for job applications.

Gaining industry insights and opportunities

Bringing in external speakers during the program offers participants an insight into various industries and the different pathways into employment. Jasmine’s class heard from a guest speaker from an apprenticeship organisation that also offered local apprenticeship opportunities. Jasmine applied while still completing MTC’s program and was successful in securing one of the apprenticeships.

“After only three weeks, I have an apprenticeship in Animal Services. I loved this course because it helped me be more confident in myself and helped me fix up my resume,” Jasmine said.

“MTC Coach Daniel helped me a lot and was very kind and approachable. With this course, we also got to do a boxing program which helped me build confidence and to stop doubting myself. I would recommend Skilling Queenslanders for Work to anyone who wants to build confidence and find a job!”
