Suojin’s story
After arriving in Australia from Korea, Suojin felt that she had never had the chance to study English and believed her lack of fluency in the English language was holding her back from employment.
Suojin was keen to improve her communication skills and increase her confidence while looking for a new job so she decided to enrol in MTC Australia’s Skills for Education & Employment (SEE) Program.
In the SEE classroom, Suojin engaged in a variety of listening and speaking activities covering a wide range of contextualised workplace situations. These scenarios included making telephone inquiries, communicating with tradespeople and colleagues, liaising with management, completing workplace reports, and following safety directives.
Suojin was a hardworking student who rarely missed a class and always completed her booklet on time. Her positive attitude towards study and increasing her skill set benefited her greatly. Her communication skills improved significantly and not only did she enhanced her English, she also gained a huge boost in confidence.
As a result of her renewed self-confidence and stronger language skills, Suojin attended several job interviews and was offered a job as the main chef at a new takeaway shop. She also offered to assist with the setting up of the restaurant. Suojin is extremely happy with her new role and is thankful to her Trainer and the SEE Program for empowering her to become more independent.
