Watto’s Story

Stephen had previously run a restaurant but he was keen to upskill before becoming an entrepreneur with his own operation. He came to MTC Australia’s Self-Employment Assistance looking for support with creating a robust business strategy and opening plan as well as clarity on his financial approach.

Self-Employment Assistance Mentor Shane coached Stephen as he completed the 13-week BSB30220 Certificate III in Entrepreneurship and New Business. The combination of the Certificate III course and the coaching by Mentor Shane gave Stephen a structure to keep his new business on track, create and review an expansion strategy and stay focused on becoming cash flow positive before making a profit.

Stephen’s business – Watto’s Wondrous Creations – is now up and running, producing a range of gluten free cakes, cookies and muffins. The business has experience rapid growth and has already moved into larger premises in the first six months of existence. Stephen is growing his customer base which includes cafes across north west Sydney.

MTC Australia Mentor Shane said Stephen has a special determination as well as a healthy belief in his product and its potential. He is very willing to listen and change his approach where needed. And his cakes taste great!
