Your guide to the T3 train line closure

SYDNEY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2024: The T3 trainline between Sydenham and Bankstown will close on September 30 2024 as Transport for NSW converts each station and the rail line to Metro standards. The closure will have widespread impact on Sydney commuters and directly impact participants travelling to and from a number of MTC Australia’s Training Centres and sites, especially those situated at stations that will be closed.

When the conversion is complete in 2025, passengers will have access to a 21st century high-tech metro line with a train every 4 minutes during the peak, along with fully accessible stations and services. In the meantime, however, if you usually travel on the T3 line, you will need to plan a new route. We have created a short FAQ and listed some key resources to help you get started ahead of the September 30 closure.

 Which stations will close along the Sydenham to Bankstown T3 line?

  • Marrickville (MTC location)
  • Dulwich Hill
  • Hurlstone Park
  • Canterbury
  • Campsie (MTC location)
  • Belmore
  • Lakemba
  • Wiley Park
  • Punchbowl
  • Bankstown (MTC location)

When will the train line close?
The closure of stations on the T3 line will begin on 30 September 2024.

How long will the train line and stations be closed?
At least 12 months, and likely longer.

What is the impact of the closure?
If you normally catch the train to one of the affected stations, you will need to plan a new route to work or appointments.

This is a great opportunity to consider your health and your impact on the planet – don’t reach for the car keys, consider active transport instead! Check out these awesome resources on riding and walking routes that will connect you to alternative train and metro stations.

Feeling unsure? NSW Transport will also be offering free  bike-related courses in a number of local areas, including: try-a-bike, bike riding skills and confidence course, guided scenic bike tours, bike tuning and more!

Will there be train replacement buses?
Yes! To replace the T3 line trains, Transport for NSW will be offering a free, high-frequency bus service between Sydenham and Bankstown stations from September 30. The buses will be easily identifiable as they will be pink!

The bus service will be called Southwest Link and it will have three bus routes: SW1, SW2 and SW3. The bus service will run from early morning until late night seven days a week, with a bus every two to four minutes in peak periods.

  • SW1 – Sydenham to Bankstown (All Stops) Sydenham, Marrickville, Dulwich Hill, Hurlstone Park, Canterbury, Campsie, Belmore, Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl, Bankstown, and return;
  • SW2 – Sydenham to Bankstown (Limited Stops) Sydenham, Belmore, Lakemba, Wiley Park, Punchbowl, Bankstown, and return;
  • SW3 – Sydenham to Campsie (Limited Stops) Sydenham, Canterbury and Campsie, and return.
