What is Self-Employment Assistance?
Self-Employment Assistance is a government-funded initiative designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs and eligible business owners realise their dreams through business training, expert mentoring, and income support.
Who is eligible for Self-Employment Assistance?
First, let’s check if you are eligible. To be eligible for Self-Employment Assistance, you must:
be aged 15 years or older (to access Small Business Coaching you must be at least 18 years of age or older)
be an Australian citizen or a visa holder with working rights that allows you to:
remain in Australia for at least 24 months or access income support payments
not be enrolled in full-time secondary education
not be an undischarged bankrupt
must meet any additional eligibility criteria specific to the service(s) you have chosen

Am I eligible if I don't live in the regions you provide Self-Employment Assistance?
No, please visit the Workforce Australia website for information on SEA providers in your region.
Am I eligible if I have already started my business?
Yes, you are eligible if you have an existing business. It’s best to speak to one of our experienced mentors who will assess the viability of the idea.
Can I work part-time and develop my business at the same time?
Yes, as long as the external income is not greater than twice the amount you receive from Self-Employment Assistance. Your part-time job should not interfere with your business development.
Am I eligible if I work full-time?
You can apply for the program while working full-time as you transition to your business.
I previously completed the Self-Employment Assistance Program, can I still apply?
Yes, but if you previously participated in Self-Employment Assistance, you must wait one year before reapplying.
