Am I eligible if I don't live in the regions you provide Self-Employment Assistance?

No, please visit the Workforce Australia website for information on SEA providers in your region.

Am I eligible if I have already started my business?

Yes, you are eligible if you have an existing business. It’s best to speak to one of our experienced mentors who will assess the viability of the idea.

Can I work part-time and develop my business at the same time?

Yes, as long as the external income is not greater than twice the amount you receive from Self-Employment Assistance. Your part-time job should not interfere with your business development.

Am I eligible if I work full-time?

You can apply for the program while working full-time as you transition to your business.

I previously completed the Self-Employment Assistance Program, can I still apply?

Yes, but if you previously participated in Self-Employment Assistance, you must wait one year before reapplying.

I do not receive Centrelink payments, can I still apply for Self-Employment Assistance?

Yes, you can still apply for Self-Employment Assistance as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

Can I do the Self-Employment Assistance program without starting a business?

Self-Employment Assistance is designed to help people become self-employed. If you have no intentions of starting a business Self-Employment Assistance is not recommended for you.

Does the Self-Employment Assistance program cost money?

No, the program is funded by the federal government.

Does Self-Employment Assistance provide financial assistance to start a business?

No, you need to fully fund your Self-Employment Assistance business idea.

Do I need to do the small business training to get into coaching?

No, small business training isn’t required for coaching. We recommend speaking with our coaches to determine the best support for your needs.

I only want to do the Business Health Check or Business Advice session, is that possible?

Yes, but you will need to speak with one of our coaches to determine the support that best fits your needs.

Will you get us customers?

No, but we can coach and mentor you on how to get customers.

Will you teach us how to develop a website?

No, but we can give you some pointers on how to develop a website.

I want to learn more about the program. Who should I contact to get further information?

Have you signed up for our information session? During these sessions, we provide information about the program.

You can also fill out the enquiry form on the website and one of our business coaches will be in touch with you.

What are the attendance requirements during the training?

You need to attend the scheduled training days. If you need flexibility, talk to your trainer.

How long is the training for?

The training runs for 13 weeks, with sessions taking place two days a week from 9.30am to 3:30pm.

How long is the skills set training?

We have two different skills sets, the Micro Business Skill Set and the New Business Ventures Skill Set:

  • Micro Business Skill Set: This program lasts for 6 weeks with training sessions taking place twice a week, from 9.30am to 3.30 pm.
  • New Business Ventures Skill Set: This program spans 8 weeks with training sessions taking place twice a week, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm.
When is the next training course for the certificate III in Entrepreneurship and New Business?

Can I withdraw from the Self-Employment Assistance program and go back to Centrelink?

You can withdraw from Self-Employment Assistance training voluntarily at any time, you may also be withdrawn if you do not comply with your agreement.

How much is the Self-Employment Assistance allowance?

The Self-Employment Assistance allowance is $762.70 per fortnight.

How do I know if I'm eligible for the Self-Employment Assistance allowance?

If you are receiving Centrelink payment while transferring to coaching, you will be eligible.

Is the Self-Employment Assistance allowance provided in addition to my Centrelink payment?

No, it replaces your Centrelink payment once you commence coaching.

Will my rental assistance be paid?

Yes, Self-Employment Assistance rental assistance is paid for 26 weeks.

Why do I have requirements to still look for a job while participating in Self-Employment Assistance training?

You will need to notify your provider to update your plan and add Self-Employment Assistance training for MTC to link the activity.

I don’t have a job provider, who updates my job plan?

If you don’t have a job provider, you can manage your requirements through DESE’s digital platform. You can create your own Job Plan there and make changes if needed. Reach out to the DESE Digital Services Contact Centre for assistance or questions.
