At MTC, our Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Industry Pathway Courses help you quickly become job-ready with the specific skills you need for your chosen career. These courses are designed with input from employers to make sure you gain the skills needed for entry-level jobs.

What courses we offer

We know that getting an education can sometimes feel intimidating, so we offer tailored support services to boost your confidence and help you find meaningful employment. Our dedicated trainers and support staff provide customised guidance to help you find the right education pathway and increase your long-term career prospects. We are here to support you every step of the way as you build your skills and gain the self-assurance to succeed in various industries, including childcare, construction, retail, hospitality, warehousing, and more.

Who is it for?

To be eligible for the SEE Program, an individual must be:

aged over 15 years and have left school, and

either be an Australian citizen, or a permanent visa holder, or on a provisional or temporary visa with working rights and eligible for the Adult Migrant English Program, or a Pacific Australian Labour Mobility visa holder, and

 

not enrolled in the Adult Migrant English Program any other Program as advised by the department from time to time

Course information

Course duration: Industry Pathway courses are 15 hours a week for eight (8) weeks. Work experience placements are arranged for participants during Week 6. These courses are delivered face to face.

Upon completion of a SEE Industry Pathway course, participants will be familiar with the technical terminology and processes of various industries.

You will also learn English language, literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, work health and safety basics, and workplace communication skills needed to work in the relevant industry. By the end of the course, participants may receive a Statement of Attainment in one of the following qualifications:

  • 22471VIC: Course in Initial General Education for Adults
  • 22476VIC: Certificate I in General Education for Adults (Introductory)
  • FSK20119: Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways

How much does it cost?

The SEE program is free for eligible participants. It is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Recognition of prior learning

MTC Australia has processes for recognising any prior knowledge and skills acquired through previous training, education and experience. Participants can apply for their RPL to be assessed and gain credit for their prior learning.

Our Courses

Childcare Pathway Course

The Childcare Pathway Course introduces you to the basics of working with children in various settings. It is designed for people who want to start a career in childcare or who need to refresh their skills and knowledge. Upon completion of this course, you will be familiar with the technical terminology and processes of the childcare industry. You will also learn the language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills, workplace health and safety basics, and workplace communication skills needed to work in childcare.

Cleaning Pathway Course

The Cleaning Pathway Course will help you gain skills essential for securing work in the Cleaning industry while also improving your language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills. This course introduces you to the types of Cleaning positions and the responsibilities and job requirements of a Cleaner. This short course also addresses workplace health and safety basics, and introduces technical terminology and processes related to the Cleaning industry.

Construction Pathway Course

This course is designed to introduce you to the world of Construction and prepare you to join the workforce. You will develop the necessary skills and learn basic terminology while acquiring essential language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills to work in Construction. This course is facilitated by experienced trainers who will equip you with basic language related to current workplace health and safety guidelines and help you gain the confidence to embark on a career in the Construction sector.

Forklift Pathway Course

The Forklift Pathway Course is your ideal insight into working with Forklifts. You will be introduced to the main components of a forklift and its operations and will become familiar with basic language and terminology related to forklifting tasks, handling loads and maintaining equipment. This short course will also address any gaps you may have in your language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills.

Hospitality Pathway Course

The Hospitality Pathway Course will help you seek employment in the Hospitality industry. Whether you are a newcomer or seeking a change in your profession, this course equips you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in various hospitality sectors, including hotels, restaurants, event planning, and tourism. You will gain basic language skills and knowledge related to workplace health and safety requirements and customer service, such as effective communication, handling complaints, dealing with customers, and serving foods and beverages.

Individual/Aged Care Pathway Course

The Individual/Aged Care Pathway Course will give you an overview of the industry and help you develop the skills needed to gain entry-level jobs in the Care sector. You will cover topics such as home care, personal support, and elderly care. This course will equip you with the necessary language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills (including workplace communication skills) to work in the Care sector. This short course also addresses workplace health and safety basics, and introduces technical terminology and processes related to the Care industry.

Retail Pathway Course

The Retail Pathway Course will help you learn oral communication skills and skills relevant to the retail industry. If you are just starting out or looking to advance your existing retail skills, this SEE Pathway course is ideal for job seekers who have an interest in gaining employment in the retail industry and would like to acquire the necessary skills to enter various retail sectors, such as fashion, electronics, grocery, and more. This course will also focus on concepts related to workplace health and safety basics and customer service, such as effective communication, handling complaints, and meeting customer needs.

Warehousing/Pick Packing Pathway Course

The Warehousing/Pick Packing Pathway Course will introduce the tasks and duties involved in the Warehousing and Pick Packing sector while addressing any language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills gaps you may be experiencing. Through this short course, you will be prepared to work in warehouses and distribution centres in retail, wholesale or manufacturing industries. You will be introduced to basic language and terminology related to working in a warehouse, identifying products and understanding workplace health and safety requirements.
