Student Fees and Tuition

Under Smart and Skilled funding, student fees & tuition are determined by eligibility criteria. You can estimate the fees for your preferred VET course here.

Student fees and tuition costs

Smart and Skilled fees are determined based on eligibility criteria.  You can get an estimate of the fee for your preferred course in the course finder.

You will be advised of the fee for the full qualification and will be able to pay it in instalments. The NSW Government has fixed course fees for all eligible students enrolled in Smart and Skilled. Your course fee can also vary according to your individual circumstances.

Please see our ET SOP 019 Collecting and Protecting Fees procedure for details of all applicable fees and charges.

Fee categories

There are six fee categories for students training under the Smart and Skilled program:

    1. Standard Student

    • First Qualification
    • Subsequent Qualification

     2. Apprenticeship

    3. Traineeship

    4. Concession

    5. Exemptions and fee-free scholarships for eligible student cohorts

    6. Fee-free training (for specific programs)

    Fee details

The student fees show detailed fees for each course, but generally:

    • The first qualification fee will apply if you do not have any previous post-school qualification from any tertiary sector.
    • If you already have a post-school qualification from any tertiary sector, then the subsequent qualification fee will apply.
    • Apprenticeship fees will apply to NSW Apprentices who are undertaking training in a qualification that is offered on the NSW Skills List as part of an apprenticeship pathway in support of their apprenticeship.
    • Traineeship fees apply to NSW New Entrant Trainees undertaking training in a qualification that is offered on the NSW Skills List as part of a traineeship pathway in support of their traineeship.
    • A concession fee is a discounted fee for a student who meets the criteria listed in the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration Policy.
    • The concession fee is also available to a student dependent on someone receiving a specified Commonwealth Government benefit or allowance. To be eligible for the concession, the student must depend on a person receiving the benefit or allowance at the time of enrolment. There are no concessions for a student enrolling in a Diploma or Advanced Diploma.
    • Fee-free training applies to students who fall into one of the following categories:
      • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
